The Quick Guide to Creating an Attractive and Effective Landing Page

Discover what your website needs to generate more customers and sales

Whether you need a new website or update the one you have; chances are you’ve considered doing it yourself. Fortunately, there are extraordinary tools like Website Builders (Wix, Squarespace, Weebly, etc.) that allow you to design your website fast and easily.

In many cases, this is a good alternative if you are starting your business and want an online presence. But if you already have a website, you should ask yourself:

Is my website working? When was the last time it generated a customer or a sale for you? Do you appear on the first page of Google when you search for your products or services?

It’s not enough for your website to look pretty. Beyond design, a website must help your business grow and guide your prospects to act on your website.

1. Attract Customers with a Good Design and Optimization

Website Builders are TOOLS; they are only as good as the people using them. Lean on free tools like Canva for graphic design and Google Keyword Planner to optimize your page. If you don’t have design or optimization knowledge, consider relying on a professional designer to make your page look good and a programmer to get your page optimized for SEO, which will help your web page appear on the first page of Google.

Next time someone charges you for web design or SEO, ask them to show you examples of pages they have worked on. Review their work and verify that their websites appear on Google’s first pages.

2. What exactly is SEO?

Designing your website is only the first step. You have to optimize it, so it appears on the first page of search engines. Ignoring this process will completely undermine the performance of your website and therefore, your results.

For Google, the most important thing is to show the search result that best answers the customer’s question.

In general, this means that Google wants to see that people who visit your site stay and interact with it. Google will verify that your site loads quickly, that the design is responsive (that it looks good on mobile devices and computers), and that it clearly explains the content of your page.

You’ll also want to optimize your images so that they have good resolution and weigh as little as possible. You’ll help your website load quickly and will improve the user experience. No one likes to wait and Google will reward your efforts with a better ranking. In general, we recommend that you do not exceed a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels and that images weigh no more than 300KB.

In addition to the images, you will need to do detailed research to identify which keywords will help you rank your website so that it appears on the first page of Google results.

Next, you’ll have to optimize the SEO title and meta-description to match your keywords; don’t forget to specify the image and description you want to show when you share your page on social networks. If you are designing your page in WordPress, we recommend that you use Yoast to optimize your page. If you are using website builders, each one offers its SEO tools. Be sure to read their manual for more details.

These elements will help your website perform and rank better in search engines. You’ll help your potential customers to find you much faster.

3. Don’t Forget the Most Important Thing: RESULTS

Good design will help people stay on your site, and good SEO will help your site show up on Google. But the most important thing is missing, customers and sales.

Confused customers don’t buy. For your website to make money, you need to develop a strategy within your website that will help guide your prospects to make the decision you are looking for, whether it is sharing contact information or buying your service or product.

Every successful website must have excellent content, a combination of landing pages, and Call to Actions (CTAs) that clearly explains what next steps your prospects should take.

How to Create Clear and Effective Content

Start by creating a buyer persona (target audience) and a content strategy to organize the questions your customers may have within the three stages of the buyer ( awareness, consideration, and decision).

Buyer personas are fictional, generalized representations of your ideal customers. They help you better understand your customers and tailor your content to their specific needs, behaviors, and concerns. A content strategy will help you deliver the right content to the right people at the right time, based on the characteristics you established.

By performing this analysis, you’ll have a clearer vision of what pain points you need to address, what problems your buyer has, and what possible solutions you can offer.

You’ll be able to organize and segment your content towards your potential buyers, making sure you’re sending them exactly what they need.

Websites vs. Landing Pages

Your website houses all kinds of information regarding your company, its services or products, contact section, inventory, and much other information. A landing page has only one objective, to generate leads or sales.

Web pages help explain to your prospects everything you do. Landing pages will support your marketing campaigns to increase sales or leads.

WordPress offers many tools to create landing pages. We recommend Unbounce, Leadpages, or Instapage. If you intend to use website builders, you will have to look if they have templates in their library.

Convert your Prospects into Customers with CTA’s

CTA’s, in many cases, are represented by buttons or text links that guide your visitors to perform the action you want from them. Some popular examples are buttons that say buy, sign up, download, contact us, share, learn more, etc.

Each page should have a clear and visible CTA that explains what the next step someone should take is. If you can’t think of something, this may identify that the content on your page is not needed, and you should delete it or combine it with another page.
